Welcome to the world of Odyum.  This site is my humble attempt at building a campaign for the dungeons & dragons role-playing game.  I have struggled with building my own setting for several years but have always fell short of my own expectations, and I am hoping that this site will help me bring all of my loose ideas into one more cohesive image for the world of Odyum.

So what is Odyum exactly?  It was once a densely populated globe dominated by humans that fell to a great darkness that demolished nearly all life.  The world was forced back into a stage of infancy, where the wonders of the old age were lost, and a new age of savagery has begun.  In the distant past a great evil was unleashed upon the world, it's very presence drove men mad, and tore apart the fabric of space.  This evil reigned for only a short time, but it was enough to completely destroy all civilization on Odyum.  Since it's defeat the races of men have been crawling back from the darkness, stripped of their greatest achievement they are rebuilding a primitive world where might makes right and evil has earned a powerful foothold.

The idea behind the world is a savage place where social mores have failed and faded.  The majority of characters will be unaligned, with a large group favouring evil, and a fraction leaning to good. Most people are simply interested in survival and will do whatever it takes to live another day.

Ruins, thousands of years old, are scattered all across Odyum, the last remains of the once glorious empires that vanished so long ago.  So far reaching were these empires that there is nearly no land untouched by their remains, and so numerous are these ruins that it would take hundreds of years even to find them all, let alone explore their contents.

Most of the world is broken into city states, with a powerful or wealthy monarch ruling over the land.  The technology level is very low in most parts of the world, reminiscent of barbarians and ancient civilizations.

One of the influences that helped me contrive this world are the brutal Hyborian Age of Conan.  If you are familiar with the world created by Robert E. Howard then you will likely find adapting to Odyum easier than most.

I also took a lot of ideas and concepts from an unlikely source...  He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.  Yes there are character based (and by based I mean ripped off) on the characters presented in the masters of the universe franchise.  I don't want people getting the idea that this is a G rated or even PG rated campaign setting however.  It is rated R and for good reason.  To take a look at how I think of He-Man playing into this setting take a look at this link and drink in the darker side of Saturday morning cartoons.

4th Edition is out!

Well, it's out and I like it!  For the time being I see no reason to make any changes to the system, nor do I feel comfortable enough with it to add any new material, so I will be using the system as written.  I will be changing some of the player races, but that is to make them align with my world more closely, but aside from that we will be keeping the standard system.
